Monastic Spritituality, Mendicant Spirituality and hagiography as an Approach to Teaching Dante

To undertake a program of reading in primary sources which would result in papers on three topics: 1) Dante's relationship to monastic spirituality and culture; 2) to Franciscan spirituality and culture; and, 3) to hagiography. In-depth study will be undertaken of Dante's Commedia, a monumental poem, rarely taught in toto to students. This study would make this masterpiece accessible.
