The Relationship Between Nihilism, Scientism, and Ideology

FAIN: FR-10246-78

Lelan McLemore
Carroll University (Waukesha, WI 53186-5593)

To begin a book length study of the interrelationship between three aspects of modernity: nihilism, scientism in the manifestations of bureaucracy and technology, and ideology. Study will demonstrate that the characteristics of modernity are essentially interrelated in systematic fashion. Research will describe each of these phenomena "in itself," relate each to the others, and identify their collective origins in the profound transformation of our view of man, action, and reason that was initiated in the 17th century. Major focus of this research will be on 19th and 20th century European thought.
