Research will focus on 3 projects: (1) Vocal ornamentation in Italian opera around 1800. Its thesis is that the so-called "Gluck reform" toward classical simplicity fell on deaf ears as far as late 18th century Italian opera is concerned; (2) Dido's Lament, a study in shifts in operatic style in the 18th century opera; and, (3) Research in the field of opera production.
