This study will compare the lives of English and American craftsmen in three distinct areas: moral outlook, political activities and marketplace endeavors. Study follows Pi’s completed manuscript, The Independent Mechanic: The Tradesmen of New York City in the Age of Jefferson. Study will compare the two cultures of British and American craftsmen in terms of the value placed on education and religion and the nature of family life and recreational habits.
