To engage in a program of intensive reading with the object of attempting to discover the underlying outlook or connecting element among the various expressions of the human spirit (philosophy, politics, literature, art, religion, economics, etc.) in the 18th century. Concentration will be on Germany. Reading will also include the unifying factors for all Christendom at that time, the Enlightenment and the advance of science and technology.
