To undertake a study of artisans in the American colonies. Goal will be to analyze the impact of economic and social change on culture. Study will be in 3 parts: (1) to examine the emergence of artisan culture in the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries; (2) to investigate the impact of economic and social change upon the artisan culture which had developed in the American colonies; and, (3) to study the response of artisans to economic development.
