John R. Squibb
Lincoln Land Community College (Springfield, IL 62703-5402)

This is a program of intensive reading, periodic discussion, and bibliography building on the topic of ethnicity in the ancient world. Study will attempt to address basic questions like: 1) What are the ancient roots (if any) of racial prejudice? (2) Was there racism or ethnic prejudice in the ancient world? (3) In what ways were ancient ethnic problems similar and different from our own? (4) What role did ethnicity and ethnic groups play in the ancient world? (5) What was the relationship between ethnicity and economics, politics, and social structure in the ancient world? (6) Was ethnicity affected by sexual values and attitudes? (7) What was the "psychology" of the ancient world with regard to ethnicity?
