The Emergence of teh Professional Woman Artist in the Pre-Modern Period

To undertake a project of study and research on the emergence of the professional woman artist in the Pre-modern Period. An examination of the conditions of women that existed in this period of the Middle Ages and Renaissance will be necessary in order to understand how changing attitudes and institutions made possible the rise of women artists. Medieval Europe is a rich source of women's art, as the convents provided the best working conditions and training for women to become educated and work as artists in that period. Nuns played a major role as creators and conservers of Western culture. Project would focus on the works, styles, and biographies of women artists during this Pre-modern period.
