To study three types of projects:(l) Rudolf Otto's The Idea of the Holy in its social and cultural locations in the "revival of the humanities" in early 20th century Germany; (2) The neo-Kantian structuralism of Otto, Weber and Levi-Strauss in connection with their opposition to subjectivism and irrationalism; and, (3) An evaluation of the method of Geisteswissenschaft in light of recent criticism by Levi-Strauss and Gellner and the problem of the "myth of autonomy."
