Effects of Romanticism on Tillich and Rahner

This project entails a reading program in Romantic philosophy of religion, especially French Catholics. Result will be a major article, perhaps a book, on the connections between Romanticism and two 20th century theologians, Karl Rahner and Paul Tillich. A clear characterization of "Romanticism" complete with a cohesive and accurate picture of its varieties, would provide a conceptual grid against which Tillich and Rahner can be better understood and criticized.
