Russian Formalism, Structuralism, and Common Sense

This seminar will study the main ideas of the Russian formalists and structuralists in relation to selected Russian literary texts in both prose and verse. The main emphasis will be placed on translating the basic intellectual premises, theoretical concepts and terminology of these critics into a language of common sense.
