The Nineteenth Century French Novel

To discuss new critical perspectives in the 19th century French novel. The seminar will concentrate on two types of criticism: formal and humanistic. The four novels to be studied are: Le Rouge et le Noir, Le Pere Goriot, Madame Bovary, and Germinal.
