To explore the relationship between the social theorist and American institutions and values. The seminar will examine the major work of a select number of great American literary intellectuals and social philosophers. Participants in the seminar will be provided with new interpretative organizational themes and new modes of analysis in critical theory which they can apply to their own teaching of American history.
