Italian Opera in the Eighteenth Century

To explore the conventions and traditions of Italian opera in the 18th century. The seminar will study the relationship of the libretto and music in a few representative examples; the types of recitative and aria; performance problems and reconstruction of scores. Both basic types of opera, "opera buffa" and "opera seria" will be examined.
