To consider 15 or 16 of Shakespeare s major plays,with emphasis on his growing understanding of techniques of characterization for the stage, his use of various sorts of narrative and plot materials, and his gradual evolution of specific forms of drama congenial to the requirements of these devices of characterization and plotting.
