The Imagery of Surrealism: Pictorial and Verbal

FAIN: FS-10314-76

Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY 13244-0001)
J. H. Matthews (Project Director: January 1976 to present)

To study surrealist painting and poetry through pictorial and verbal imagery. The seminar will aim to show in which ways painting and poetry are complimentary activities in surrealism. The image will provide the focal point of an examination into the nature and significance of surrealist language and will demonstrate that an accurate impression of surrealism can be gained only when surrealist painting and poetry are studied side by side.
