Written and Oral Traditions in Hispanic Literature

The seminar will be a sociolinguistic investigation of the relationship between the oral tradition and literary rhetoric in a number of familiar Hispanic texts. The seminar will first consider general theoretical questions concerning the difference between written and oral language followed by an examination of selected Spanish and Spanish-American works.
