Continuation of New Beginning: An Analysis of Contemporary German Culture

To investigate major trends of contemporary German culture (1945 to the present), examining to what extent the German- speaking area after WW II has indeed developed a new culture and to what extent the cultural features differ in the four German speaking countries. Topics: 1) the citizen and the state, 2) the quest for the quality of life, 3) the "undigested" past and the concept of guilt, 4) self-image and the view of history, 5) regionalism vs. nationalism, 6) alienation or identification, 7) the concept of "Bildung" and education, 8) language as carrier of culture.
