To explore the oratorio in Germany from the late Classic era to the late Romantic. Aim is to deepen participants' understanding of continuity and change in musical concepts and styles of the period under consideration. Method is to study a genre (the oratorio) whose history has received relatively little attention in recent musicological literature.
