Seminar will examine the development of Latin American literature since 1920. Will explore the hypothesis that continuing tension between avant garde expression and traditional movements created the spectacular literary flowering after 1945. Readings will emphasize Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Cuba and Mexico.
