Antropological Models in the Study of Modern Indian History

To examine works of anthropologists and historians so as to formulate theories relevant to understanding various transformations in South Asia since the 18th century. Major topics: 1) indigenous social theories and their relations to social change, 2) agrarian relations and local social systems as affected by British rule, 3) changing modes of production and exchange and 4) the emergence of modern political forms in South Asia.
