Seminar will develop a sociological, comparative approach to the study of urban societies through the study of ancient Mesopotamian cities, medieval Arab-Muslim and European cities and Mediterranean cities in the "early modern" era. Seminar is intended for teachers of ancient, medieval or early modern history, urban history, urbanism, or sociology.
