Theories of Reading: Fiction and Film

To survey recent theory relating the spectator/reader to individual texts and to place that relationship within specifically determined patterns of response articulated by the culture in general. Seminar will concentrate on texts which will call for examination of the part played in the reading process by such elements as pleasure, structuration and coding, desire and repression.
