A study of selected problems in rhetoric and the application of rhetorical theories to college writing. The course will survey both traditional and modern rhetorical texts, exploring the usefulness of rhetoric as a means of generating writing and developing composition skills. Topics: rhetoric as a discipline, theories of invention, units or arrangement like the sentence and the paragraph, metaphor, voice, tone, audience, and rhetorical criticism.
