Study of historic changes in early German dialects, reevaluating these changes from the standpoint of transformational or generative grammar. According to the generative theory, language--sentence and phonetic structure--evolves naturally along certain lines and according to certain conventions. Fellow to trace these conventions in early German and test their applicability and validity.
