Fellow to edit, with full introduction and notes, the uncollected Shakespearean criticism of Harley Granville-Barker, generally recognized as one of the handful of critics who have made a permanent contribution to Shakespearean studies in this century. Both as a critic and as a theater director, Granville-Barker advocated a return to Elizabethan staging. His major work, Prefaces to Shakespeare (Princeton University Press, 1927-47), has been a major influence on 20th century Shakespearean scholars.
