Tri-College Cooperative Effort (Dubuque, IA 52001-3198)

Fellow to prepare monograph comparing Vivaldi's soprano roles in operas and cantatas. Current interest in Vivaldi's vocal works (as opposed to instrumental compositions) stimulated largely by fellow's studies and editions of these works. Grant for third stage of continuing study. Stage One: fellow transcribed Vivaldi cantatas in Biblioteca Nazionale di Torino, translated texts, analyzed music. Stage Two: cantatas performed professionally, two essays by fellow published in music journals, fellow's editions of cantatas published. Stage Three: fellow will use Vivaldi manuscripts in Dresden and Turin to prepare a comparison of soprano roles in his operas and cantatas. Study will advance understanding of Vivaldi's work and facilitate presentation of composer's vocal works to large audiences.
