Natural Philosophy in Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queen

Fellow to write first two chapters of a book on the philosophical aspects of Spencer's Faerie Queen and to begin research on subsequent chapters. Study will analyze Spencer's philosophic understanding of the natural order, in terms of tradtional patters of thought and specific texts (particularly Plato and the neo-Platonists) which were known to Spencer and which he incorporated into the complex world of the Faerie Queen.
