One-volume edition of Edwards Channing's six-volume History of the United States (Macmillan, 1905-1925). While Channing is generally recognized as a major figure in American historical writing, his History has been allowed to go out of print. Few people willing or able to read the entire work. Fellow to write extensive introduction, placing Channing and his perspective in American historiography; select the portions to be included and tie them together; and provide an index. Fellow has made preliminary contact with University of Chicago Press to include the one-volume History edition in their Classic American Historians series.
