A systematic analysis of social themes in contemporary Ecuadorean prose fiction with a view toward 1) shedding light on an important facet of modern Spanish American Literature and 2) seeking explanation for the prolonged adherence to tradtiional themes by Ecuadorean writers in the face of wide-spread narrative innovation and experimentation elsewhere on the continent.
