To study the relationship between the Old English poem The Battle of Maldon and a party of religious patriots centered around Wulfstan, Bishop of Worcester and Archbiship of York, during the reign of Aethelred the Unready. To determine whether the poem was meant to rally Christian English against the pagan vikings some 20 years after the battle took place.
