To explore the relationship that existed in 1812 in Yorkshire England between the changing pattern of social and political relationships within this rural community. The precise nature of the alliance of convenience between the manufacturers and the gentry as will as the nature Luddite terrorism and its impact upon the conduct and policy of goverment both at the local and national level will be examined.
