To complete a nearly finished study of the narratives of some American slaves and to continue exploration of the life and letters of the feminist Margaret Fuller. This work is part of a larger endeavor to direct the study of nineteenth century American literature toward an analysis of the social and political as well as the moral and aesthetic implications of literary works.
