To identify the relevance, purpose and function of musical forms in the novels of George Eliot, the study will attempt a full review of references and allusions to specific musical works mentioned in teh novels. The information will provide a fund of internal and background data which, together with the biography will reveal a comprehensive interpretation of Geoge Eliot's use of music.
