To study the social and historical background to the episodios nacionales of Benito Perez Galdos (1843-1920), 46 related historical novels covering the history of Spain of the first three quarters of teh 19th century. The Historical development of Spain from 1873 to 1912 will be examined, above all by reference to contemporary Spanish press.
