To carry out a book-length study of the late poetry of Theodore Roethke. Primary focus is on extended readings of the major works of the poet's last decade, Words for the Wind (1958) and The Far Field (1964), both of which won the National Book Award. One aspect of this inquiry, is directed to exploring the relationship of manuscript materials to the published texts of poems in the former volume.
