Place Names in Urban Areas

To examine the uses of place names for Bostonians. Residents of the city use place names to identify features of the urban landscape and they also invest these names with connotative values, symbolic of their attitudes toward their surroundings. The Project Director hopes to learn in detail how they use place names, whether particular groups of residents identify the places they know with similar names, whether they manifest similar attitudes when they use these name.
