To complete research on a study on the American writer's imprression of Russia from 1917 to the early 1940s. During this period many American writers, upset by the social and economic conditions they saw around them in the U.S., visited Russia and wrote out their impressions of the communist experiment. Many of these pieces are readily available in books, but some of the more important observations of these writers are to be found only in letters and articles they wrote for socialist journals at the time, which are located in the Tamiment Library and the Library of the Wisconsin State Historical Society.
