Universals of Adjective Clause Structure

To pursue a cross-linguistic study of the internal structure of adjective clauses in a variety of unrelated languages with the goal of providing explanations for the observed similarities and differences between languages in this one area of syntax. Beyond the immediate relevance to linguistic theory, studies of this sort are of interest because they provide information concerning the nature of man's general cognitive competence and in particular his ability to communicate complex ideas.
