To complete a study of the Choctaw Indians in Mississippi as the intitial stage in the development of a full account of the Indians who remained in the South following the Removal Period (1838-39). Since the study of Indians in the South has been largely neglected, this project will allow a more comprehensive understanding of social relations in the South.
