The proposed study concerns the earliest development of technological literature of a practical nature in the pre-modern era. It is intended to provide systematic knowledge of the development of technological change as revealed in the engineers' notebooks, handbooks, and treatises in Germany from c. 1400-c. 1525. Through this, the technological background to early modern economic, political, and social changes can better be understood.
