Tradition and Politics in Israel

To examine the relationship between the political folkways of the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe during the 16th-18th centuries and Israeli political practices today in order to demonstrate that the culture of the Eastern European ghetto and shtetl (Jewish village or small town) should be given a far more important place in any comprehensive explanation of Jewish politics, and the politics of the Israeli political elite.
