To complete a study of Anglo-American relations from 1783 through the signing and ratification of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty in 1842. The study concludes that the Webster-Ashburton Treaty marked the culmination of America's search for independence by establishing, in at least British eyes, its identity as a nation.
