To study Russian medicine during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The study will focus on the feldshers, paramedical personnel who performed a wide variety of tasks in a country which was only beginning to develop a modern medical system. Most important, the study will examine the attitudes and activities of the non-revolutionary intelligentsia in the years preceding the Revolution.
