To demonstrate the cross-currents existing between musical theater and socio-political conditions by studying several eighteenth century and early nineteenth century works, including Tammany, The Archers, The Patriot, Darby's Return and The Indian Princess with particular attention to the socio-political conditions that influenced their creation.
