To study the seventeenth and eighteenth century British roots of the ideology of the American Revolution (including anti-revolutionary attitudes). To study the theories of resistence and revolution of a number of political theorists who were widely read in the American colonies and to examine the responses to them by tradtionalist and authoritarian writers.
