To write a biography of the Cretan Pope Alexander V (Pietro di Candia), whose career, except for his commentaries on Lombard and his short papacy, is little known. This major new Reanissance figure was prime minister under Grangaleazzo Visconti, involved in the struggle between Republican Floorence and despotic Milan, as a Franciscan missionary helped convert the Lithuanians, became involved in the Great Schism.
