To carry out a detailed bio-bibliographic-critical study of approximately 400 creative writers from the Antilles writing in the language of that area, including, where and if possible, Creole and Portuguese (of Afro-Brazilians). Further, the most important works in various genres will be analyzed and related to each author's own corpus of work as well as to the tradition of such work in that area as useful and relevant. No detailed "companion" to the literature of this area exists--and bio-bibliographical details are scattered far and wide through many diverse lists and other sources. A work of this sort will be of value not only in the cultural-literary area but to scholars interested in America's neighbors to the South in a political and economic framework as well.
