To make detailed linguistic analyses of the three greatest movies about the American Revolution: D.W. Griffith, America (1924); John Ford, Drums Along the Mohawk (1939); and King Vidor, Northwest Passage (1940). This study will use the new linguistic methods of Christian Metz and will examine the interpretations of the Revolution these films suggest.
