FAIN: FT-12224-74

Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ 08901-8559)

To complete research on conscription during the war and postwar period, 1917-20, to test hypotheses about the impact of the draft and to reconstruct and analyze the post-war appraisal of conscription. This study of the origins and impact of the draft and the post-armistice appraisal of conscription will improve understanding of the nature of compulsory military service and thus contribute to the current debate over the proper method of raising an army.
